Stone-Danahy Studios has relocated to John's Island, SC! It has been one year since I stopped working in the studio and it feels good to be back. I was able to begin phase two of a drawing/painting that I developed while working in Studios at 625 Trade Street in Winston-Salem, NC. The concept was to work on butcher paper and develop a process for working in image transfers to a drawing. I cut up the butcher paper up as I collaged in images and began working out composition while inserting historical imagery from my family. This weekend, I stretched a canvas and sized it with rabbit glue. Then, I added the paper collage/drawing to the canvas with the glue and covered the surface with glue also. It was similar to adding wall paper to a wall and was messy and difficult! The goal now is to develop an oil painting that incorporates my under drawing, historical images, and perhaps I will continue to add new images as well. I think next time, I would just work directly on a canvas and paint but I guess I wasn't able to see how I could do that last year. It's an interesting problem to solve (surface manipulation) with the oil paint and I am interested to see what happens next when I try to paint on it.
